Yoga is a form of exercise, meditation, and breathing practices with Indian roots designed to bring unity to the mind, body, and spirit. At the Yoga Room classes are small and personal where you will get the individual attention you need from the instructors. All their teachers are certified through recognized institutions in adults, kids and prenatal yoga.
The Yoga Room offers ‘Yoga Kids’ from ages 3 and up. It is taught by Hema Aswani, a certified Hatha yoga teacher and a ‘Yoga Kids’ teacher. YogaKids was developed by Marsha Wenig and has been introduced in over 23 countries. It uses Howard Gardner’s theory of Multiple Intelligence which is based on 8 types of intelligence to make learning easier and with a better chance of retention. These 8 types of intelligences have been expanded to 14 Yoga Kids Elements. One pose can teach the elements such as anatomy, math, peace, music, and echo earth all at once.
The benefits of yoga for children are endless. They gain the same physical benefits adults do by offering strength, flexibility and coordination. It also enhances their self-awareness. Children who practice yoga learn early on tune into their bodies. Self esteem is bolstered as the children gain control over their bodies and minds. Yoga for kids enhances their imagination and empathy. Children are asked to strike poses from nature such as snake, tree and are asked to imagine what it would be like to be those life forms. In this way, children learn early on to connect with all the life on the planet and learn more on their surroundings. Children also have fun and move their bodies in a non-competitive environment and can learn ways to relax and get control of stress in their lives. A child worried about a test, for instance, might use the meditation or breathing techniques of yoga to help her calm down and focus.
Prenatal
Prenatal yoga is an ideal preparation for labour and birth. Prenatal yoga helps improve in a calm and mindful way the ability to breath, relax and adjust to the physical demands of labour, birth and motherhood. You can start attending prenatal classes as early in your pregnancy as you like as long as you are feeling well and your doctor has given you the approval for physical activity.
Yoga Room's prenatal teachers Diane King and Maria Wong are both certified in Hatha Yoga and Prenatal.
The Yoga Room also offers Mom and baby yoga classes which provide an opportunity for you to regain strength and flexibility through post natal stretches, to bond with your baby in an enjoyable activity whilst enhancing their development and to interact with other moms. This class is suitable from 6 weeks to crawling.
